Heel Thyself: Teaching Loose Leash Walking
Loose leash walking can be a lifesaver! (And if you've ever been dragged by a dog on leash, you know what I'm talking about!) Let's take a look...
About Me
Who is Wee Beasties?
I’m a multi-species pet trainer and behavior consultant based in southern West Virginia. I’m also available for virtual consults online! I am a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, a graduate of the Applied Animal Behavior Program (UW-AAB) from the University of Washington, a Certified Trick Dog Instructor, and a Fear Free Certified Professional.
What kind of training do you do?
I use postive reinforcement-based training which means employing gentle, humane, and effective methods to train behaviors, and using your pet’s favorite things (treats! toys! play!) to reward those behaviors.
What is behavior consulting?
Behavior consulting is just training aimed at solving a problem behavior like chewing up your furniture, pottying in the house, barking and lunging on walks, and more. I use positive reinforcement-based methods here too! Often a vet will recommend a client try behavior consulting, but you don’t need to wait for your vet to recommend it. We can do a consult to see if it would be right for you!
What kinds of pets do you train?
Live ones!
Just kidding…well, sort of! Any pet species can be trained with positive reinforcement, from dogs and cats to hamsters and ferrets to even horses, pigs, lizards, fish, and snakes! I focus mainly on small companion animals like dogs, cats, parrots, pocket pets (hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, etc), and amphibians and reptiles. If you’re looking for help with your horse, please contact me, and I’ll help you find a positive reinforcement trainer for them too!
